THE GOAL IS NOT TO BE BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE

It’s to be better than who you were yesterday

Hi my friends,
This week’s letter is about comparison. We live in a world that constantly makes us measure ourselves against others. Their achievements, their looks, their timing, their success. And the more we compare, the more we forget what truly matters.

The goal is not to be better than anyone else. The goal is to be better than you were yesterday. Because the real progress happens when you turn your attention inward.

🌱 Growth Is Personal

No one has lived your exact life. No one has faced your struggles or carried your pain. So how could your journey ever look like someone else’s? When you compare your path to another’s, you lose sight of your own progress.

Kaizen teaches that the smallest improvements, done daily, are what matter most. Being one percent better today than yesterday is enough. Because over time, those small wins compound into transformation.

Focus on progress, not competition.

🔁 The Comparison Trap

Social media makes it easy to believe that everyone else is ahead. You scroll, and suddenly your pace feels too slow. But what you see is a highlight reel, not reality. You don’t see the sleepless nights, the doubts, the failures that came before their wins.

According to research from the University of Michigan, people who constantly compare themselves to others report higher levels of anxiety and lower life satisfaction. Comparison steals joy, but self-awareness builds peace.

Instead of asking, “Am I doing better than them?” ask, “Am I doing better than before?”

🧠 The Power of Reflection

Improvement starts with awareness. Reflect on where you were a year ago, a month ago, even a week ago. What have you learned? What habits have you improved? What weaknesses have you faced?

When you notice your own growth, even in the smallest details, you realize you’re already moving forward. You stop chasing validation and start building inner confidence.

🔑 Kaizen in Action

Every day is a new chance to measure yourself against your past, not other people’s expectations. Read one more page than yesterday. Train for five more minutes. Speak to yourself with a little more kindness.

These small acts create momentum. They’re not about perfection, they’re about direction. Kaizen reminds you that success is not a race. It’s a rhythm.

Final Note
The goal has never been to outshine others. It’s to outgrow the version of yourself that gave up too early.

So before you go to sleep tonight, ask yourself: Did I do something today that made me better than I was yesterday?

Because if the answer is yes, even in the smallest way, then you’re already winning.
